Somewhere over the Rainbow

I'm sitting here at my kitchen table. Writing the blog post I have been procrastinating. Thinking about the wings that are due to be delivered any moment. Wondering how on earth a trip to see the latest Indiana Jones flick could have actually cost over $60. Okay...so, I wasn't really writing that blog post.

We are under thunderstorm warnings right now. We really need that rain. And I look out the window, and the sky is just strange looking. It's kind of yellow. Kind of orange. I walk out to the back yard, and it just feels strange outside. And it's way too bright to be 9pm.

So, I make my way to the front...and there is a huge rainbow in the sky. In the middle of the orange sky. I, naturally, grabbed my camera and called the girls out to see it. They are really excited. I don't think they've ever seen a full arc rainbow before. And then, it starts to fade...and then it's gone. And Katie remarks, "I can always remember it in the corner of my mind."

  1. No way, that's awesome! I've been wanting to see a rainbow for a while now...and Remy says he's never seen one before.

Very cool pictures. Kind of eerie looking, but the rainbow is pretty.

Did you enjoy the Indiana Jones movie? My boys LOVED it.

I said this in your other post's comments, but it bears repeating. I LOVE your new blog layout and design. Very snazzy and eye popping. Darcy rocks! She is THE designer to work with. :o)

  2. Rhea--Thanks. It was eerie looking. That sky was something else. They were going to have something on the news about why it looked so strange...but then our dish went out :-) I'm thinking it has something to do with smog and pollution :-) I tried to lighten the pictures up with photoshop...but it just made the rainbow fade. It was much more dramatic than the pictures show...but again...that orange sky. So, so strange.

We *loved* Indy. Very fun movie.

And yes, let's sing Darcy's praises. Especially since she had to deal with me! She is the guru.

  6. Angie--The rain passed us by. Must have hit the other side of the rainbow. I love this version of this song too. I first heard it in one of my fav movies - "50 First dates."

Heather--Quite trippy. Wish the cable had not gone out so that I could get an explanation...

  7. Hi - thanks for visiting my site! I usually read 5 to 6 books a week. Sometimes, if I'm reading children's books - which I also love - I can read up to 10 a week. Believe it or not, I have a 16 year old daughter who also has a hungry appetite for reading.

  8. bobbi--I used to read like that. Until I started blogging! And I did a Thursday Thirteen (last week I think) on young adult novels. Both of my kids are avid readers, too.

  9. I love when stuff like this happens. Like when you see a perfect spider's web or a couple of hummingbirds are dancing and drinking - or a beautiful rainbow like the one you saw!

    for a few moments anyway...

  10. Very cool! What I wouldn't give to pay only $60 to go to a movie... (I think today is my day to cripe about prices in Norway...) $60 is just for the tickets..for 2...forget popcorn. Have a mentioned that gas is now $12 a gallon.... Mmmm Hmmm. LOVE this song, Have a super Monday!

  12. Eerie sky, indeed. That's what it looks like out here when there are fires. Sorry you didn't get your rain. :-(

  13. Swirl Girl--It is cool, isn't it. I was glad that the pictures came out at all. The first picture is the one straight out of my camera, the other two have been lightened through photoshop...so you can see how orange the sky *really* was.

We put a hummingbird feeder right outside my kitchen window. I have seen 2 or 3 so far - but they haven't stayed long enough for me to get pictures. It's hummingbird season here in August...so I'm hoping to get some really good pictures then.

AIN--$12 for gas? I knew we had it good compared to the rest of the world...but, wow. Here it's $3.99...althought I got "cheap" gas this week for $3.91...

JDMom--I still can't get over the strange sky. I was just so thankful that a rainbow appeared and let me procrastinate a little longer :-)

Susan--No fires here that I know of. But with all those red alert smog days...there is just no telling about why. Gonna have to google it..

  15. That's absolutely beautiful. WE used to get skies like that all the time when we were in South Carolina. Now, not so much.

  16. We had weird greenish skies at that same time last night. Odd.

I must say, though, the thing that touched me most about today's post is Katie's comment. I'm feeling that little Mom twinge just reading that. I love those special quotes from kids.

  20. Katie's quote is the best thing I've read all day. Even better than the rainbow.

Awesome pics, Kat. But the UT hater in me is all, "Gross--orange sky. GO DAWGS!" 'Cause I'm that kind of Bulldog fan.

  21. Oh no you didn't, Lula! I'm a UT fan. burnt orange all the way, baby! Hook em horns!!

  22. OK, gotta clarify this for non-SEC peeps. Kat, I know YOU knew I meant the Volunteers when I said UT and orange. Right? I hate even writing the Vol word out. Yucky. GO DAWGS, again!!!!!

I've nothing but love for the Longhorns. 'Cause they don't play UGA! Ha!

  27. Really cool pictures!

That was how our sky looked, just as the sun was setting, when we had the level 2 alert, due to the fires in CA. The sun was this reddy orangy colour and the sky was an orangy brown.

I have a photo somewhere of a double rainbow that I took, during a thunderstorm. I love rainbows.

That was alsoa beautiful quote from your daughter...

  28. Gorgeous! I love rainbows...when we lived in Hawaii I saw them all the time...now it is such a rare occasion that you actually get to see one that you have to take pictures ASAP before it disappears. But they are spectacular aren't they? They always take my breath away.

  29. Ooh pretty! I haven't seen a rainbow in a long time.

  30. That is beautiful... and what a precious thing for Katie to say!
