Blog siesta

I think I have had a really long blog siesta. And it's time to wake up. So much has happened over these four months. Some things are blog worthy. Sponge worthy? Some things not. So. In a nutshell. This is what we have been up to:

After Michael got out of the hospital, he hung around the house for a few weeks. Killing time before they could start him in the cognitive and occupational therapy program. He was rather underfoot. Then when he started the program, we were at the rehab center two or three times a week for a few hours. I have read an unbelievable amount of books this year while sitting in waiting rooms.

Instead of hiring a landscaper to put in our spring flowers...I thought Michael might be up to the task. He pulled out the winter pansies. Planted lots of annuals. Planted bulbs. Mulched. And the yard looks fabulous.I am not sure that he is going to get out of being our new gardener. I think he was grateful to go back to work so that he could escape my next trip to buy flowers.

Is it too far gone to talk about the snow we had in March?Yeah. I thought so.

What about Lizzy and her girls coming for Easter? What if I added that she makes dyed plaid eggs? I've told her that I am expecting a plaid tutorial next year.

Well...on Easter Sunday, we went to church. And then we had the biggest Easter Egg hunt in the world. I thought we did it last year. But this year, we out did ourselves. It was really all my mom's fault. She was thinking 500 eggs. So...we bought a bunch of eggs and candy. And when we started filling those eggs, we ran out of eggs. So we bought more eggs. And then ran out of candy. It was a never ending cycle. I think in the end we had 778 eggs "hidden" in the yard. Hidden really does become a relative term with that many eggs. And do you know how heavy the bags are when there are only 9 girls searching for them? I found another one in the yard today. We are still missing one with a dollar coin. I wonder if that one will evah turn up.

And then there was the worst Spring Break in the history of the world. According to my children. Because I made them empty out their closets. And their drawers. And. Try everything on. Katie has made that pivotal turn. She is officially out of the children's department. And into shoes larger than mine.

Oh. Another thing I did on my blog siesta was to go and meet Paula Deen. I think that might have gotten your attention. And as a reward for wading through all this drivel. I have an extra autographed copy of "The Deen Family Cookbook" waiting here just for you. To enter just follow the fine print: comment for your first entry. You can get extra entries for following, tweeting, and/or blogging about it. Just come back and leave extra comments saying so. Contest ends Friday, May 29th at midnight. Winner selected randomly.

So...what about you? What is the longest you have gone between blog posts? Have you cleaned out any closets lately? Are you a Paula Deen fan? Do you have a favorite cookbook?

Oh wow great giveaway - who doesn't love Paula??

I'm just sorry I didn't get to her restaurant when I was in Savannah getting my old company "setup and settled" outside of Savannah.

Oh, I LOVE Paula Deen! Actually...not even joking...when my oldest dog hears her voice on the television she comes running and starts to smack her lips a lot! LOL! It's the cutest thing! Maggie (my dog) always has been a big fan of butter! Sounds like you had a nice relaxing and productive week! I love cleaning out the closets now and then! It feels so good to purge!

Just a funny note... Paula Dean is my MIL... Well not actually, but if I close my eyes it's her. Marie passed away over six years ago.

Fi loves to watch Paula, and I always find myself catching my breath when I hear that voice coming from my T.V. Paula must be related to us somehow. :-)

Glad you are back. Also glad that Michael is feeling up to working again!

I don't own ANY Paula Deen books...can you believe that? Can you fix that?

Unknown said...

Longest? No idea.

Closets? Yes... the girls. It wasn't too bad. Dont' ask about under their beds.

I like Paula Deen, but her recipes are sometimes a little futsy for me. I LOVE her attitude though. My favorite cookbook is any church cookbook from Minnesota or North Dakota.

And I'm glad you posted again. Even though I've got the inside track and all I even got my fingernails in your post.

Glad to have you back! I think it's been about 3 weeks between blogs but I'm making a come back lately.
Have a great rest of the week!

WOW Lula hasn't been here yet to comment and say that that cookbooks is hers.

So I have news... IT"S MINE!

I been wanting to make a trip to Hotlanta and maybe spend the weekend or a day or something. You ever gonna let me know when you're free? Richard is doing pretty good with his pain, I am more than a little anxious about the visit we have coming up on Thursday.

Anyhow love ya and obviously I needed to tell someone all that dribble I suppose I could erase that but nah.

Okay....Wait! WHAT? Paula Deen? How, why, where? You can't just say you met her and that's it. I need details. And I LOVED the snow pictures. Beautiful with all your trees. I still can't get over how many easter eggs you did. I thought my 4 dozen was going to kill me.

Michelle said...

And that is why I don't do Easter egg hunts at all! Wow! I love the work Michael has done, but I'm guessing that means that he isn't interested in coming to do our yardwork then? No? Glad to see you're back and around -- it has been awhile! The longest I've gone is I think two days? Sad, I know.

And I ADORE Paula Deen. And HER Michael. And her accent. And her cooking. And her cookbook -- which I do NOT have. Yet :)

Length of time between entries: depends on the blog. About 2 weeks or so on the one I usually write on. MONTHS if it's my Padded Room blog.

No closets cleaned, yet. Really should. Time to get back to normal again.

What's a cookbook?

Lianne said...

Yea for you being back!

I love your flowers. Does your husband want to do my yard, too? It's always available.

I love all the Paula Deen cookbooks, but especially the "Lady and Sons" early one. I got to meet her at a taping of "Paula's Party" two years ago. She's a hoot!

Lianne said...

Puh-lease. I was already a follower. :)

I feel all caught up with you. I hope that this means that you are back in the blogging things. I missed your posts.

I get panicky if I don't post almost everyday. There might be something wrong with me.

Yay, you're back!! I cannot BELIEVE how many eggs you guys hid. Can I come next year? My girls would never want to leave. :-)

I sooooooo want that cookbook! We're heading to the beach (and Savannah) next week, so I'm crossing my fingers that, at the very least, I'll get to dine at The Lady & Sons.

I love Paula, but most of her recipes aren't exactly "Weight Watcher friendly!"

I still want the book though, 'kay?

I just broke my longest blog posting spell on my family blog. Usually, I post on that every other day--at least. Well, I just took a month long break from it. My Mother-in-law asked my husband if my computer was broken...

My closet needs to be cleaned out SO BAD! I posted about it about a month ago and it's still a big pile of crap.

I love all cookbooks. It's kind of an addiction. I have an ENTIRE cabinet full of cookbooks. This one would have lots of friends if I won it!

Carrie said...

p.s. I am a follower. DER

By the way, I think you guys might have an Easter Egg Hunt sickness. Pretty sure they offer meds for that! " )

Lin said...

Glad to have you back in the blogosphere! I also have been rather erratic on blogging lately...nothing serious, just too much school! Oh well, I am getting close to my degree! Thanks for the giveaway!

Jill said...

Hi Kat - So nice to have you back and begin getting caught up with you!!

Unknown said...

Longest between posts? Probably the week I was on vacation, lol. Forced non-posting. I say I'm not going to post and inevitably I do. Addiction, yep it's strong in me!
I need to clean closets but figured I wait and see if we are moving in SIX weeks and worrying about it then.
Never seen/read Paula Deen. My favorite cookbook: BHG Favorite recipes or the Ratatouille cookbook cause my son cooks with me then.

I love me some Paula Deen!

I have missed you. Your blog siesta has lasted long enough...get back with us, sista!

I clean out closets all the time, it seems. Getting a new job meant new clothes, so my closet is the most recent. Gabe grows two inches a month, so I am constantly cleaning his out.

Welcome back!

As far as books, I'm thinking I need me a Jamie Fraser fix soon. Summer is such a good time to visit Scotland :)

I love your yard--it does look fabulous, indeed.

Plaid eggs? Really? Lizzy amazes me, always.

Duh...
of course I love Paula. She's my close, personal friend. Capt. Michael, too.

And, of course, I am a follower. I do not tweet. Can't convince myself to go there. Just can't. Do you really want to know that I am now washing the Reds, drying the towels, and Swiffering the hardwoods yet again? I am trying to de-techie my brain by walking many miles at a time.

And I love Paula Deen. I wish I could get away with using that much butter.

But even if I do meet her in July... I still want the cookbook you're giving away!
