Hangover causes Kidney stones?

It is a glorious day indeed. My children are old enough to go to the movies by themselves. While Michael and I go to a grown up movie in the theatre next door. I don't need a babysitter. I don't have to pay evening prices. And I don't have to share my popcorn. Glorious.

Last Thursday, we packed the kids off to see "Imagine That" while we went to see "The Hangover." A decidedly grown up offering. I spent the movie with my hands over my mouth. Slackjawed. In silent laughter. With tears running down my face. And a truly "OMG!" sentiment.

But after we got home. I had this sudden pain in my back. That curled around to my waist. It was a very intense pain. And it came to party with its friend nausea. It was not fun. Not at all. I somehow managed to sleep a little. And when I woke up, the pain was gone...but in its place was just an achy feeling.

Friday morning, the pain had returned. With gusto. And I completely abandoned my family. And Lizzy. And her family. Who had come to visit for the weekend. For the lovely confines of the local emergency room. I somehow managed to arrive at that split second that must happen. That second when NO ONE else was at the emergency room. No one. The parking lot was empty. The waiting room was empty. And I was taken right back.

I saw the doctor rather quickly. A Dr. Ghandi. Who told me that I had all the classic signs of kidney stones. I had a CT scan. And then they started IV drugs to deal with the pain. Oh the drugs. They were most lovely. They erased the pain. The nausea. And made me rather sleepy.

So I slept. And found out exactly how long I could go in between pain meds before I started reenacting scenes from "Terms of Endearment." ("It's past ten. My daughter is in pain. I don't understand why she has to have this pain. All she has to do is hold out until ten, and IT'S PAST TEN! My daughter is in pain, can't you understand that! GIVE MY DAUGHTER THE SHOT!" - Except that I am speaking for myself. And about a pill. Nevermind...)

And poor Lizzy. I was such a good host. It's a good thing that she comes so often. That she knows how to fend for herself. And she even did her own experiement by going with Mr. B to see "The Hangover." They escaped the kidney stone bonus track.

So that was how I spent my 4th of July. In Vicodin induced haze. Kinda like a hangover. Though I haven't seen any tigers or chickens around the house.

So...what about you? Have you seen "The Hangover?" Ever had a kidney stone? Do anything fun on the fourth?

I had a kidney infection a few weeks ago - that was bad enough, stones have gotta be worse. Hope you're feeling better! I attempted to become a home owner last weekend - offer denied!

Not a big movie buff, so "no" to seeing the Hangover.

Never a stone, but had a killer kidney infection years ago in which I was peeing pus and blood and...

Oh, is that too much information?

Sorry.

We had tons of fun on the THIRD, but lots of cold rain on the fourth. No drug-induced haze for me, though.

So, did it pass?

We saw The Hangover and thought it was pretty funny! When I got my ultra sound to find out if I had gall stones (did) they said I have the beginnings of a kidney stone too. Lovely. So far ok but I'm kind of waiting for it to hit me some day. Did you pass yours?

Not fun:-(

I saw the Hangover...with Mackenzie. Generally hilarious movie, only a few awkward Mom watching this kind of movie with a nearly 16 year old daughter moments.

Vicodin sounds like a fun 4th of July party enhancer. Yowie.

If a gallstone attack is anything like a kidney stone attack, then I feel so badly for you. That pain I had rivaled labor pains for the "worst pain of my life". Except, dilotid was my best friend that night. And then percocet after my surgery. But I digress. Glad you're feeling better!

I made an attempt to go see The Hangover last Friday with hubby, but was thwarted by an unreliable babysitter. Grrrrr. We're going to try again sometime.

And my 4th was spent cleaning the house. Good times.

Kat, Have not seen The Hangover YET. Have not had kidney stones either. But have had a hangover or two. :) My fourth was spent moving. We rented the huge yellow Penske truck that was large enough for a 4 bedroom house. We filled it three times. We meaning my dear hubby and myself. Everyone we knew was out of town. Not a fun way to spend the fourth. Could have used some of your vicadin! :) Glad to know you are better now. You are better now, right???? :)

There you were, enjoying the freedom of an adult movie (well, you know what I mean) and not sharing your popcorn and BAM, pain! I'm so sorry you went through that. Never had kidney stones but I've heard it hurts like the dickens. Yes, I saw Hangover and laughed!

I have seen The Hangover and my cheeks hurt from laughing so much. Seriously.

I'm so sorry about your kidney stones, I've heard they can be quite unpleasant! I love your Terms of Endearment reenactment, though! Awesome movie!

LOVED this post! very funny! I think you know I also saw Hangover while the kids were at another movie, and went to the ER when NOBODY was there and got seen right away (before I could even gt the gown tied, actually!) We may be miles apart, but share experiences and kinship all the same!

I saw The Hangover and thought it was absolutely HYSTERICAL! I swear, I was laughing for like at least 50% of the movie. It was one of those ones where I'm laughing, but also fighting it back so I don't miss anything! I hope you're feeling better!

Ouch! You can do the flush" olive oil, lemon juice, epsom salts...sounds groovy, hey?

Wow, I'm impressed that you got to see a movie and the kids got to see their movie. How cool is that?

And that drug induced haze? As lovely as it sounds... I think I'll skip the kidney stone! Glad you're feeling better.

Never had kidney stones, but have several friends who've had them and compare the pain to childbirth. By God, if I'm not *at least* getting a kid outta the deal, I don't want that kind of pain!

Since Cody was gone for hubby's birthday weekend, Mike and I went to see the Hangover. Laughed our asses off!

Aubrey said...

Oh noooooo! I hope you are feeling better!

Saw The Hangover. Laughed my booty off! Wait...booty still there. Great.

Never had kidney stones.

We had a wonderful 4th with LOTS of family and food!

Haven't seen The Hangover, but I have had a kidney stone. I was 17. In the hospital for 4 days. I was on Morphine.
Let me just say that if I were to ever become a drug addict, Morphine is my drug of choice by a mile! Love that stuff!
ok, don't tell anyone I said that. ;)

Glad you're feeling better!
xoxox!

GAH! Kidney stones... yikes!

Have not yet seen The Hangover.

Kidney stones, no... gallstones, YES. And yes, I mean to capitalize that... holy moly that was some serious pain! Like Angie said, if kidney stones are anything like gallstones, I feel (felt) your pain.

My 4th of July was spent in the car... 10 fun-filled hours of driving to FL. And now, I get to do it all again when we drive home tomorrow...
