Kiss of death

Have you ever had a favorite...something? A favorite ice cream? Shade of lipstick? Type of jeans? TV show? And then the company that makes it. Well...they get some harebrained idea that the product needs to be changed. Improved. Or the kiss of death. Eliminated altogether.

My Clinique eye shadow was "improved" a few years ago. But the new shade is not an improvement on my lids. I am still searching for the correct shade.

I am still not over the cancelation of "John Doe" and "Homefront." I know. I was the only one watching. You don't have to rub it in.

When I diet...I tend to latch on to certain products that make it easier for me. Usually these foods are eaten on a daily basis. I can easily get into a rut. Many moons ago when I did Weight Watchers, I found the be-all-end-all in ice cream. Health Choice Peanut Butter cookie dough. Oh. It was like manna from heaven. Evidently no one else thought so. And they stopped making it. Or Entenmann's fat free chocolate pound cake. By itself, not so great. But. If you made it like I did. It was divine. (Cut the cake into 8 layers. And layer Healthy choice Mint chocolate chip ice cream in it. Oh my. I want some. Right. Now.)

And apparently I have that magic touch. Because a few weeks ago when I told you about some of my favorite products. El Monterey was listening. And stopped making my very favorite soft tacos. Now what will I dip into my wholly guacamole? What will I dip into my bean dip? What will I eat for lunch? Every. Single. Day.

So...what about you? Have you been the kiss of death for a product that you loved?

I am a product killer. Every time I have a favorite hair product or TV show or bra or lipstick shade it gets discontinued/canceled.

And you weren't the only one watching Homefront. I loved it and STILL complain about it getting canceled.

yep, I do it too... had this awesome sonicare toothbrush w/little packets of crest that attached right to it - discontinued (and selling toothpaste on Amazon for $180 - WTF?)

and the amazing Neutrogena Oil Free Fresh Moisture face lotion - nowhere to be found in stores now...

it's tough!

Brilliant post, Kat!

Clinique quit making my favorite eyeshadow duo about 2 years ago. I stocked up...bought 3. On my last one now. Why, Clinique, why?????

I'm the kiss of death for pastors. Every church I go to, it seems the pastor leaves within a year or so. We've been at our current church for 2 years and not a week goes by that I don't beg Rusty, our pastor, "PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE!"

This puts me in a bad light, I realize, but I swear I'm not doing anything to run off preachers.

this happens to me all the time too. Campbells used to make this easy dinner kit for chicken, it was awesome and a complete meal in 25 minutes but now its gone. Why oh why do they do that?

I won't even go into all of the shows that I love that have been canceled. In fact, with only a few exceptions, it does seem that my favor for a show is in fact the sign that it won't be on long. Sigh.

But other than that, the only thing I can think of is my favorite make-up, for years and years, they stopped making. Sad day.

I REMEMBER those fabulous chocolate pound cakes with the mint ice cream! We thought we;d gotten away with murder when we made those! those were great!
now, i don't have any experience with this time of problem. but i took my oh-so-picky shopper shopping today and was reminded of why this is a frustrating task. all i can say, is that someday Justice will stop making her perfect0fitting jeans. we have been known to buy 10 pair at a time for $9 each. and when that day comes. well. life as i know it will end. because something worse than my favorite being changed or discontinued is when HER favorite is changed or discontinued. oh my.

oh no--favorite shows! there aren't enough tears for all of them that have died! but my most recent and profound heartbreak was for Hot Shots--an ABC flick with 4 fabulously smart successful and HOT men in our age bracket that lived the finest life and were totally HOT. did I mention they were HOT? everyone on the show was and it was funny and goofy and great for eye candy. HOT. Men. With brains. that liked to golf.

It seems like nowadays they cancel everything that doesn't immediately go to number 1. Shows are disposable so i try not to get attached.

Darn! I never even found those...maybe now I know why.

I haven't killed any products, but TV shows? Many. Including...(sob) Firefly.

TV shows: John Doe, Sledge Hammer! (80's police satire/sitcom starring a violent, sadistic, insensitive detective), Arrested Development (my fave TV comedy of all time), Fargo (TV series pilot based on the movie -- very dark, like the movie -- which never got made into a series).

Food: I loved Eagle Brand Snacks (before Anheuser-Busch gave up on it to focus on beer), especially chip varieties, honey-roasted peanuts, & their mixture of pretzels, honey-roasted peanuts & bacon crackers. And Dogwood Brewing - microbrewery in GA with beer I loved. And Kellogg's Country Inn Specialties cereals tasted so much better than just about any other cereal I've tried. And dark chocolate versions of candy bars I liked -- like Dark Clark bar and Reese's Dark Chocolate PB Cups.

Hey, Mr. Kat! I remember "Sledge Hammer"!

The only thing I can think of (other than TV shows) that's been discontinued: Tostito's used to make a "gold" variety of tortilla chip. I can't remember their exact name, but they were so yummy.

If Old Navy discontinues and/or changes the fit of their "sweetheart" jeans... I will be livid. LIVID, I tell you!

My Frizz Ease hair products keeps going away. It is literally the only thing I have found that works on my naturally curly hair.

Congratulations to you! I've been following your blog for awhile but I've been on vacation the past two weeks and missed your WW confession. I started WW and my blog in January (no coincidence there...the blog is to "help" me on the journey). Before vacation I was just under the 25 pound mark. I'll find out tomorrow if my road trip through mid-America did any harm or not.

Try the frozen WW quesadillas to replace your tacos. They're 4 points each, come in two flavors and I love them.

Hmm, I'm sort of afraid to answer this one as I'm sure whatever I mention will disappear. I do tend to find that certain favorite staples of mine are not found at certain stores I shop at when I want them, but ... there's always something new. I hope!

Good luck to you!

CRAP! I just begged my Publix to get those enchiladas for me. That figures.

I'm a killer of tv shows and restaurants. 4 of my favorite restaurants in town have closed. Sigh.

Well, that sucks. The day you posted the tacos a couple of weeks ago, I printed the entire post and headed to the grocery. You know how many of your southern products are carried here? One. The freaking popsicles which got ruined when SOMEONE left the freezer door open. I was so sad not to find your beloved soft tacos. And I guess now I never will. Hmpf.

Skor bites. I loved them. Then they disappeared from stores. Now they're back, but they've changed them and they're not as good.

Probably better for me not to like them as much, though!

My favorite lipstick ... very old by Chanel. My favorite Wacoal underwire bra. The TV show Arrested Development - total bummer.

Mine have been the Hidden Valley Ranch Spritz (which Shoppers stopped selling for a while) and the Jell-O sugar-free instant pudding singles (6 to a box). The dressing made a comeback but not the pudding. *sigh* I think I bought every box that was left and am carefully portioning it our to make it last.

You may wanna start eating some wraps. Use turkey or chicken and roll it in the Mission Carb balance torts. 110 cal, 2.5g fat, 0 chol, 11g fiber.

I seem to be the kiss of death for hairdressers...not literally, I promise! Every time I finally find a good one after years of searching, she/he moves out of state. Wonderful.
