A Bowl of Cherries

It's cherry season. Somewhere. Somewhere far away from the 'burbs of Atlanta. Because I know how much I am paying for cherries. They must trek far and wide to land at my local Publix.

I love my cherries. And I say mine. Because I could eat them all myself. No sharing.

The girls refused to even try them. Because they think that they must taste like cherry flavored medicine.I don't even begin to know what possessed me to encourage them to try my beloved cherries. The heat must have baked my brain. A moment of temporary insanity. A total lapse in judgement.

Because they finally did try them. They discovered the joy that is a bowl full of cherries. The girls now know that cherries taste not a thing like cherry flavored medicine.

And now. I have no cherries.

So....what about you? Do you have a favorite fruit? A food that you love - but that your children refuse to try?

One time I went strawberry picking with the kids I nanny for and the oldest absolutely refused to try a fresh picked strawberry. She thought it was "poisoned" so I said 'we're not leaving until you try this'. She FINALLY broke down and tried it, and liked it. Ha! I can out-wait anyone!

OOOOHHH Cherries, Strawberries and Watermelon. I can never get enough. I was spoiled on watermelon when I lived in Atlanta. There is not a watermelon in the world that tastes as good as one from some field in Georgia. I am salivating just writing about it.
I used to go to a market outside of Atlanta, actually east of Atlanta. It was huge and I could wander through it all day. Do not remember the name of it, but I am sure you know the one I speak of.
Sometimes, I do miss the South.

Strawberries are my favorite fruit... I could eat those by the bushel.

I like my cherries frozen... pop them in the freezer just until they get cold most of the way through... yum!

And as far as what foods I like that my kids refuse to try... I don't think this comment box is long enough. Srsly, they are very picky eaters.

I love cherries too...and so does my family. We had a bunch a few weeks ago and I ate and ate until I got sick. How dumb is that??
lol

My mouth actually started watering after reading this post! I love cherries, but one of my favorite, kind of weird, fruit obsessions is frozen red grapes. It sounds weird, but I love them in the summertime - they're very sweet and refreshing :-)

Mmmmm...I LOVE cherry season. And guess what? They grow here in ID (and UT). No wonder you're paying so much for them. Actually they don't grow very well here in I.F., but in Boise people give away cherries for free because they just go bad and fall on the ground if they don't. I'm missing my cherry friends right about now.

I LOVE Nectarines! They just mean summer to me.

I am a cherry freak! Just got some - I will eat the whole bowl of them tonight while watching Real Housewives of New Jersey! Only the dark firm ones, though.
The cherries, not the housewives - I mean. LOL!

My kids will try anything!

Cherries are my #1 favorite fruits. Since I was a kid. They bring back great memories of sitting on the dock at my family's lakehouse, eating cherries and spitting the pits out into the water. Good times.

Yep... Love the cherries and the fresh strawberries. Oh yes and my very very favorite are apricots. Not the peaches or the necterines...which are good, but they are not apricots....you know, the ones that are $3-$4 per lb. So when I get them I savor every single bite. Got to love fresh fruit. NOTHING NOTHING compares.

I'm a fruit fanatic and so are my girls so I don't know that I have a "favorite" fruit. I have "moods" where one might sound particularly good or preferable over another but no one is my favorite at all times.

But, great choice of topics for a blog post! I wonder if we can grow cherries in Farm Town? I'll have to check that out! :)

I just love fruit altogether. Yum. Cherries I bought yesterday for $1.99/pound. Mmmm. I ate cherries and bocconcini for dinner tonight (another favorite). The wee ones love them (and all fruit), too. Fortunately, I also bought blueberries and a pineapple, so they ate some of all, and I was able to focus on the cherries :)

Yum!

My oldest won't try most fruits... she's an apple and banana girl. My little one will eat any and all fruit... and LOVES it. Cherries are one of her all time faves! Mine too. :)

I could eat enough cherries to be sick, I LOVE them. My oldest won't eat any fruit except canned orange segments and bananas (insert rolling eyes). But my youngest will eat anything and everything. She's a fruit hound like me. I love grapes and watermelon and cherries and kiwi (and I don't want to take up all your comment space so I'll stop there.)

I'm holding out for peaches from Palisade, CO. When they're ready in August, I'm driving over the mountains to buy a case and I'm not sharing...

My favorite fruit: a tie between strawberries and fresh blackberries. We have both in our garden, and the kids all love them. (I hate sharing.)

I love Mexican food. My kids won't try anything except a cheese quesadilla.

Darn picky eaters.

Sorry about your cherries. What WERE you thinking?

Life is not a bowl of cherries when your kids eat them all huh?

My boys will eat fruit really well if it's cleaned and cut accordingly. If there is ANY work involved at all then they leave it sitting. Lazy asses.

Mine are frozen mangos. Yummy. Toss those orangy chunks with some banana and blueberries. *drools slightly*

I could eat 2 lbs of strawberries every day of my life. Seriously.

absolutely love cherries and strawberry's. My niece who I am raising would rather eat junk over good fruits any day. So she refuses to eat all fruits. Her loss my gain, more for me to enjoy!

I'm very disappointed. I got a new bag of cherries yesterday as I had finished the bag I bought Sunday and these are horrible. They are not sweet like the last batch. But I will eat them because well they are still so expensive. LOL

My daughter hates all fruit expect bananas and apples. She won't try anything else. My son eats anything and everything. LOL

ahem......

before you go bemoaning the price of your cherries, please know that I paid 11.98 for a pound and a half of cherries the other day.

Then my kids proceeded to eat them all while Iwas gone to work!

My favorite fruit? Watermelon, but I am to afraid to spend the money on one here, cuz there's nothing worse than terrible watermelon. Ohe except terrible, expensive watermelon!

Yum! for the cherries.
My favourite would be mango though.
