The Haves. And the Have nots.

This is not a political post. Or a contemplation of the world’s economy. Or even a philosophical discussion of Malthusian theories. Nope. It is about what I have. And what I don’t have. Here at the beach.

Let’s back track just a moment. One of my favorite things about coming to my very own slice of heaven is this:

I cannot get it in Atlanta. And the Piggly Wiggly even had this to go with it. Yes, the Piggly Wiggly had Keebler waffle cones. And organic hot dogs. And my only bread option was white. And my milk choices were whole or 2%. No skim. No wheat. But organic hot dogs must be all the rage. Because when I think of hot dogs, I think organic. What makes a hot dog organic? Oh. Wait. What were we talking about?

You guys get side tracked so easily. And have your minds in the gutter. Mention a hot dog. Sheesh. We were contemplating a real issue. Ice cream.

How do I get the Tin Roof into the waffle cone? Typically, one would suggest an ice cream scooper. So…let’s look in the utensil drawer.

There is not one in there.

I have a potato masher. Cause one often mashes potatoes. By hand. At the beach. But I don’t have an ice cream scoop.

I have a pastry blender. I really needed one of these when I made strawberry shortcakes. But, trust me, I am not gonna make these while here in heaven. But I don’t have an ice cream scoop.

I have a very nice Pampered Chef garlic press. But I don’t have an ice cream scoop.

I could make a bundt cake. Or serve fondue. Or even scoop out pretty balls of melon. Drink numerous shots of Jagermeister followed up by sobering amounts of coffee. But scoop ice cream? Not a chance.

And what is this? It looks like a shovel. Or some type of serving spoon. But you know what it is for me?

An ice cream scoop. Heaven.

How cruel of you to post this in the middle of the night when my stupid grocery store is closed. And I was just innocently lurking here to listen to your eerily perfect playlist. I didn't do anything to deserve this! Hmph!

this had me lol'ing all over the place :)! We have a time share on a cabin, and the drawers there are filled wit all kinds of wacky utensils too. I wonder what I'd use to scoop ice cream? What am I saying? I NEVER scoop ice cream--just eat it right out of that convenient "single serve" container it comes in :)!

And sadly, I only want new James Bond guy for his vintage Aston Martin....

Oh, yum!! I was ready for you to start making cute little balls with that little ball thing. That would have been ADORABLE, but way too much work to enjoy yummy Blue Bell. Love it. You're too funny.

And, I think the new James Bond (What's his name?!) is totally sexy.

Oh...BLUE BELL.... Whaaa.... I remember the days growing up in Texas...(that was when you could only get bluebell in Texas...)
Gotta go catch up on your blog...

Is it wrong that I'm more turned on by that GORGEOUS ice cream cone than the nakey dude?

I've got news for you, you don't have to mention "hot dogs" for my mind to go there when I see Daniel Craig! Even hubby knows to stay out from in front of the TV when my honey's on!

I'm sorry, was there even anything else in this post?? Not according to *my* brain ;D

Now excuse me while I have a happy party in my head with Mr. Craig...

Unknown said...

Yummy Daniel Craig - oops, I mean ice cream! Yeah, that's the ticket, ice cream ....

Yum! Delicious! James... James Bond. ~Jill :)

Rose--First of all...welcome! And I'm glad that my playlist is perfect for you. I'm sorry you can't rush out and get some ice cream. I'm still trying to wrap my brains about the white bread only at the Piggly Wiggly. And it not being open 24 hours...

Jennifer--We have two blenders. Which is not so strange. What is strange is that there are 2 irons.

Rhea--I thought about using the melon baller...but it would be way too time consuming. And then my ice cream might start to melt. And that is Daniel Craig. I still haven't seen the new James Bond movie. It is in my netflix queue...

Tressa--Hey there! I have been thiking about you and your family :-)

Lauren--Sometimes an ice cream cone is all a girl needs...

FM--Has that party calmed down a bit? Have a moment for an intellectual discussion? Email me (the link is under my profile) and we can discuss Latin programs that might work for you...for Cody...or for both.

Bobbi--ice cream is most important. Right up there with reading and gawking over hotties. Thanks for bearing with me last night while I had blogger issues :-)

Jill--Quite delish. On all fronts...

around her when we have Tin Rof Blue bell ice cream we all ahve to exclaim "Tin Roof! Rusted!" and laugh heartily at our originality. So Daniel Craig...I didn't know he went to St. George Island. interesting. did you ask him if he had an ice cream scoop?

Keys to the Magic Travel said...

CindySue--Tin Roof Rusted?! Okay. I can't imagine being able to have Tin Roof whenever you want. Maybe it's a good thing that I can only have it here since we are already working on our second container and we haven't even been here a week. And that's in conjunction with the cookies and brownies I made, too.

Daniel Craig...ummm...no...did I need an ice cream scoop?

What a great post! Who doesn't make homemade mashed potatoes at the beach? A necessity for sure. Glad you found a make shift ice cream scoop. I probably would have used the little shovel to eat the entire container. But that's just me.

I love my ice cream scoop. It is the one item I bought at a Southern Living party. Sorry, if I was in paradise then you could borrow it! You did good with the improv use for the shovel-thing. That ice cream looked sinful! Yummy

Keys to the Magic Travel said...

JDmom--That shovel works well. Really well. Not sure what it's real use might be...but I'm thinking it's the best ice cream scoop ever. And we've sorta eaten that whole container...and started in on a second one. It's a good thing our elevator is not working because going up and down all these stairs is canceling out the ice cream calories. It is, right? Right?

Joye--Southern Living sells an ice cream scoop?! I have a pampered chef one at home...but I must have missed that when I had my SL party. Hmmm...

Be thankful for the Blue Bell...'cause I was raised on it, but we don't have it here in the mountains. I heart Blue Bell.

And Piggy Wiggly.

But you already knew that.

Sunshine said...

Tooooooo funny! Love the potato masher...wha???? At the beach? Yeah right.

If I were standing next to you in that pic of you holding that icecream cone...I would literally take a bite out of it...like as you were holding it.

Keys to the Magic Travel said...

Lula--We can get some Blue Bell in Atlanta. But not my favorite flavor. And as far as I know...there are no PW's there. I am missing my Publix...

Sunshine--Funny! Actually, that is my mom holding the ice cream cone so I could get the picture. Because I am not talented enough to hold ice cream and a camera at the same time. And then...she took the ice cream from me. Wouldn't give it back. She giggled maniaclly saying that she eats my props :-)

Apple Joos said...

You could have used the melon baller. That would have made the cutest little ice cream cone!

Tricia said...

Wow, no ice cream scoop in heaven?!? Glad you found a working substitution. Thanks for the eye candy! Now of course I am hungry, as well as other things and it is time for me to go...

Enjoy!

KimmyJ said...

Let's just say I was not a James Bond fan until there was Daniel Craig! Yummy, I bet he tastes just as good as that Blue Bell...oops, thinking out loud.

Unknown said...

HILARIOUS!! We don't have Bluebell either, so when we go to Gulf Shores, we always stop at the grocery store and pick up multiple gallons. YUM!!!

Dancing Queen said...

i have to agree, beach houses are stocked with the most INTERESTING of items to say the least...BlueBell ice cream!! We can get it EVERYWHERE!! It helps that we're just a couple hours away...sorry, Kat!

Come check out my summer favs post & do some of your own!!

Keys to the Magic Travel said...

Apple--I really did contemplate that. But with my big waffle cone...I would have ended up with soup by the time I was done scooping. The shovel worked quite well :-)

Tabbi--No scoop at all. I am sure that there was one. That someone decided would work better at their house. That is kinda what I am thinking about the shovel. But I won't.

Kimmy--LOL!

Heather--Tin roof is my absolute favorite flavor. And no other brand does it like this. Yum!

DQ--You know my friend and I even contemplated going to the Blue Bell HQ. Have you ever been on the tour there?

Looks like an ice shovel to me!
Beats using your fingers. But,hey, if there's no other way.

Teri said...

If you put the ice cream tub in the microwave for about 30 seconds, you can scoop it out with your toothbrush if you wanted. Just my helpful domestic hint for the day.

And at our beach condo a couple of weeks ago, we had a blender...with no insert for blending. Real handy. Because we like blending beverages while at the beach.

Dancing Queen said...

actually, no...but, that is the ONLY ice cream we've ever grown up having...it truly is amazing! have you ever had their birthday cake flavor or the wedding cake flavor??? toooooo goood for words!

Anonymous said...

maybe you just need...nevermind...I'll try to keep my public comments PG...

Debbie said...

Oh Kat...that was hilarious...I probably would have stopped at the melon ball thingy...and woman, you have posted more than I have this week, and I'm not on vacation! Sheesh. I can't keep up. I keep missing posts.

I heart Daniel Craig. That kitchen certainly is well stocked with wonderful unnecessary kitchen gadgets. A lot like my kitchen at home! Enjoy the ice cream. I thought hubby was going to lick the screen when he saw that cone of Tin Roof. Yummy! The ice cream, not my hubby licking the screen. :-)

I love when you throw in the hot guy in between family stuff:-)

Hey Kat-
I made your Oriental Chicken Salad tonight. It was to-die-for YUMMY. I will totally make it again. Heck, I'd make it for guests. It might well be my favorite new recipe. mmmmmm..... I would, however, have to say that I think the *Oriental* Ramen packet is the BEST for this - it has all that yummy ginger-ness going on.
Anyway ... just wanted to say THANKS!

AudreyO said...

I am laughing so hard over here. I own every kitchen gadget imaginable, but only recently got an ice cream scoop. The other thing I don't have yet is one of those melon scoops, where you can cut out tiny little circles of melon. Who wants to eat melon that small anyway LOL.

LiteralDan said...

I would have guessed you'd go with the melon baller-- the small scoops might help fill the cone even more efficiently. Heck, I might even try that next time I make a cone.

I;ve discovered Breyers Fat Free Double Churned icecream. It doesn't taste like fat free icecream at all.

And if I accidently slip up and eat the whole container, then it's only about 12 points...
