When the girls and I got back from our trip to San Antonio last month...my mother casually mentioned that her cat, Todd, seemed lonely. The girls heard this innocent comment from the basement of their friend's house 5 miles away. They ran all the way home. Faster than lightning. And wanted to know when they were going to get a kitten to be a friend to Todd. Before we could blink. Or pick our jaws up from the floor. The girls had these kittens named. Knew where they might sleep at night. And figured out who would take care of them when we go on vacation next.
Ummm...no one said we were getting a kitten. So the girls argued that:
1. We'll scoop the litter box. And I replied: Are you nuts? We are not getting kittens.
2. We'll feed the kitten every day. And I replied: No, absolutely not.
3. We'll make sure that the kitten has water. And I replied: When pigs fly.
4. We'll be responsible. And I replied: Not in a month of Sundays.
5. We'll do whatever you ask us. And I replied: When chicken have teeth.
6. We'll clean our rooms without you asking us. And I replied: When hell freezes over.
7. We really will take care of the kitten. And I replied: When the sun rises in the West.
8. We'll be sweet. And not argue. And I replied: When frogs grow hair.
9. But mom...you won't have to do anything! And I replied: When it snows in summer.
10. Really, we'll take care of it. And I replied: Not a chance.
11. You won't even know it's here. And I replied: Only if it's the end of the world - "Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!"
12. We'll give you foot massages on demand if you let us get a kitten. And I replied: On the first of never.
13. PLEASE! And I replied: NO, and that's FINAL!

I am having the same issue here! Little Miss wants a kitten soooooo badly (we just got the dog 4 months ago, sheesh!)!!!
We used to have a cat before we had kids. When I got pregnant with #1, Shane had to take care of the litter box. Which he detested. So when I got pregnant with #2, he flat out refused to have litter box duty again. Plus, he hated all the cat hair everywhere. Luckily, my sister took our cat and has had her ever since.
If we give in to Little Miss's demands, it will have to be an outside kitty.
UH OH ...you gave in, didn't you. :-)
You got to admit, they are really cute and think of all the stuff they'll do that you can blog about !!
Am I to assume those adorable little kittens are at your house? :) They are oh so very cute. And you know I am a sucker for animals.
Love those responses you gave to each reason! These kitties are beautiful! I want one, too.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Let's check in on you tomorrow to see how many foot rubs you have gotten or how many arguments there have been or how many times YOU have had to clean out the litter box...Oh that is knee slappin funny!
Are their names, NO and NO AGAIN???
Those kitties are soooo cute. You have a noodle for a backbone. :-)
HUH-larious, Kat. Truly.
And, ahem...the one in the front looks shockingly like Lewis the Cat, of whom I said last year, "He is NOT an indoor cat...he will never walk through these doors."
Yes...Lewis sleeps on my custom upholstered sitting chair and I spend my days fighting grey and white piles of hair. GOOD TIMES.
hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! sucka! if those ARE yours ... I hereby give you the award for the week: going to great lengths ... all for blog fodder.
love the line about the girls hearing/running from friend's basement 5 miles away .... hahahahahaha!!
And I was drinking my coffee. I know better. And I won't do it again. til next time.
Yes...those are our kitties. I like to "think" I stuck to my guns. Because I didn't get the kittens. But my mom. With lonely Todd...took the girls to Petsmart where they had rescue kittens. Where she filled out ten pages of adoption questions (I swear we could have gotten a child with less paperwork)...and now we have two more hooligans living at my house.
I thought appropriate names would be No and Final. But the girls disagree. The one in front is Ella and behind is her sister Jessica.
Lol. I've heard those all out of my kids mouths too. Stay strong mom.
haha - they are awfully persistent though, aren't they? I love me some kitty cats, despite being allergic to most of them - I'm currently trying to become a dog person, so I often ask my husband, "Can we get a puppy?" and of course he wants a puppy but we can't have pets at our apartment so I knew the answer anyway.
lol...been there..lol!!
I'm sure Todd thanks you.HA!
They are so pretty--and unusual loking too. whne you said they were gray I pictured tabbies. I can't wait to show my girls. take lots of pictures! they grow fast! AAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWW!
Hahahaha! You couldn't even stop at one? Hahahahahaha!
Oh but they are so cute! Errr, the kids and the kitties.
soooo precious! I am working on DH for one.
Awww..they're too cute...Now I'm going to have to warn my kids that the chickens out back have teeth and to get up early to watch the sun rise in the west...:-P
Ella looks like she might be trouble..I have a cat that has that same look in his eyes..he's the one that figured out how to open doors...
Hahahahaha...sucka!
The kitties are gorgeous!
Awwww. I heart kitties. You know I can't go into Petsmart or Petco on adoption saturdays because I'll start crying & find one that needs to come home with us. Michael says 2 is enough. He's right, but it's like seeing babies. Makes me want another. Till I remember what work they turn out to be! haha
Awwww. And to think Susie may have had something to do with your insanity. Congratulations on the new arrivals! They are adorable! Looking forward to reading about their adventures.
Man, they don't make it easy. I have heard that inmates make such good jailhouse attorneys because they have nothing else to focus their attention on. State prosecutors, on the other hand have multiple cases, family, money etc. to distract them.
I think the same is true for kids. They can focus their considerable energy on crushing a parent's resolve.
Have you thought about getting a crow instead? I can't speak more highly of crow husbandry.
Thanks for your comments about Mom Insulting Text Messages.
Dying. Laughing. Can't. Breathe.
I've missed you my long lost blogging buddy!! I've been so busy I haven't had time to blog surf like I used to, but I'm recommitting...:)
I have to keep trying on the dogs...my husband got us 2 cats....and I SERIOUSLY dislike cats...but I LOVE dogs...and we don't have any dogs. I'll trade you!
Happy T13!
Those are some really cute kitties. Glad to hear they found a good home. I hear it's the most fun when you get siblings. They sleep curled up together and always get along.
SOOOOOOOO Funny!! You sound just like my own mom did with me. And the end result was the same too. Your kitties are darling.
The only way a cat is coming to my house is if I move out.
They are cute and all but.... better you than me. No. Thank. You.
Aw, they are SO CUTE! If it makes you feel any better, Big A asks for a kitten every day. Regretfully, I'm sure I'll give in one of these days when she catches me in a weak moment. I just hope she's not perceptive enough yet to know exactly WHEN that weak moment is. LOL!
OH.. You are too funny. I love all the answer you gave them. So did they get their kitten? :)
-Amy @ The Q Family
Oh Kat!! Tooooo funny! What little cuties they are! I'll be anxious to hear how all the litter box scooping goes in about...oh....2 weeks when the newness is over :) Still, they are sooo cute and your girls will love them like crazy! (And so will you I bet!)
I'll be looking for those flying pigs as the sun rises in the west tomorrow morning ;)!
They are AWFULLY cute!
And really, your cat's name is Todd? That's the strangest cat name, i'm just sayin' :)---are these babies going to be named Ken and Chad? :)--along the theme of popular names from the 70's?
Oh my stars and hearts they are cute!!
Way to stick to your guns!
Hmmm … it seems as if you did everything right but got circumvented in the end. Methinks I’d definitely call them ‘no’ and ‘final’ no matter what the girls named them. Good luck ;--)
Hugs and blessings,
This reminds me of a book I had as a child, The Secret Kitten, I think. The children hide the kitten because the mom said the dad is allergic. They keep the cat and the dad does not sneeze. Eventually they keep the cat. I am keeping your list of no's on the fridge fo when I run out of my own.
Kat, Kat, Kat...it's amazing how often as Moms we do things like this!
Hopefully you'll have some help with the kittens!
Damn they're cute. Mine wants a horse ... now how the bleep is that gonna go over here ... NOT!
Hey, I just saw you are read Octavian Nothing. How do you feel about it? I read the first few chapters but never really got into it. I finally gave up. Maybe you'll think it's really awesome and I'll dig it back out! ...Welll maybe after I finish Warriors (which I plan to buy soon).
I had to laugh at Jennifer P's comment about Todd having a funny name. I think her kitty named Ditch Bank takes the cake for that.
Way to stand your ground *snort*
Could be worse, they could have been asking for ponies ;D
Those kitties are ADORABLE! YAY! I'm so glad you got kats. They're so much fun and I know they will provide you with lots of blog fodder. Beautiful!
Look how many comments you have! 41! You go girl!
I return home tomorrow.
That is just too funny! Our girls must be kindred spirits (and good negotiators).
I'm sure I will lose this battle as well.
They sure are cute.
I love this post. And the kitties are so cute.
We lost our cat last month. She was 13. We have 2 dogs but it isn't the same without our cat. The girls are begging for another but I'm still not over losing her and don't feel ready to get another.
but... but... it can snow in summer!
