It's time again for our weekly getting to know you session. And time again for me to wrack my brains for some questions.
Do you like to camp? Or is the Holiday Inn roughing it enough?
Do you want to be buried or cremated?
What is your soap box issue? (Now, don't get on your soap box. I just want to know what issue will send you up there)
You are going to a costume party. What will you wear?
Tomorrow you MUST change jobs. No more stay at home mom. No more teacher. No more nurse. No more fill in the blank. What new career will you start?
What was the last movie you saw?
What one room in your house would you like to re-decorate?
When you were growing up, did your family decorate for holidays other than Christmas?
What is the oldest thing in your house?
Pick one: cruise ship, powerboat, sailboat, rowboat, kayak, or inner tube?

I don't really like to camp all that much, unless the temperature is just right. I don't want to be hot & sweaty all the time, and I don't want to be freezing my toes off, either. And no bugs. Meh-- maybe it's just not for me.
I'd prefer to be cremated. I know exactly where I want to end up, what music I want to be played, etc. (Does that make me weird?)
I think I have a few. Migraine Awareness is the issue closest to my heart, followed by women's rights.
I actually AM going to a costume party in a couple of weeks. My husband and I are going as Trinity and Neo, from The Matrix. Which is made even more lame by the fact that I didn't even LIKE The Matrix.
I want to start something FUN! Actually, I said today that I should be a consultant, so somebody can pay me to tell them how not to be an idiot. I think I'd be great at that.
The last movie I saw in the theatre was Mamma Mia. At home, Superbad.
I would love to redecorate my living/dining area.
My stepmother is a Christmas Freak. She decorated everything that she possibly could. It wasn't pretty. She decorated some at Halloween, too, but not with near the enthusiasm she had for her Christmas "decor."
My great-aunt's childhood bed.
Powerboat. Particularly a sportfisherman cabin-cruiser that could sleep 6-8 people.
1 .. I like camping, but I like a few comforts to go along with it. Like an airbed!!
2 .. This is a hard one. I have a fear of fire, so I think buried.
3 .. Education, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assaults, particually against women and children.
4 .. Hmmmm ..... probably something medieval or a sorceress or something along those lines..
5 .. Midwifery
6 .. At the movie theatre , 'The Dark Knight'. On TV, a horror movie on SciFi, but I fell asleep during it.
7 .. My kitchen
8 .. No . Decorating for the holidays was not a huge thing in NZ, when I was growing up. I think it's slowly changing. I'll certainly be decorating when I go home as I have boxes of stuff that I've collected over the years and I have the bug!!
9 ... What, other than me ? :-) Actually, I'm really not sure. We have an old Bible, that's around a 100 years old. I'm intending to get it restored.
10 .. Powerboat, it goes fast :-)
Allergic to camping, need electrical outlets and running water and bathrooms and hot showers.
I'm not sure...
SBI:Teachers don't get paid enough money for what they do.
Something creative or something scary that will win first prize.
Open a bookstore.
Fool's Gold.
Master Bedroom.
Every holiday was an occasion to decorate.
An antique sewing machine in it's cabinet.
Inner tube.
Love to camp, really I do. For about 72 hours. Then the outdoorsy charm starts to fade as I long for indoor plumbing and clean feet.
My family is very traditionally into burial but I think cremation is a lovely idea. I'd like my ashes tossed off some beautiful mountain lookout so anytime my loved ones wanted to "remember" me they could come up to that spot and feel in touch with something bigger than themselves.
Good heavens, when do I ever come DOWN off my soap box? Unopinionated, apathetic people drive me crazy.
I've got long hair and big boobs so I always end up as some Shakespearean-like character.
Does this job have to provide income? If so, then I would launch a journalism career with Time Magazine. If not, then I would join the Red Cross full time.
"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" - one of my very favorite love stories.
The kitchen. It's the hub of the home and I spend so much time there - I would really love for it to be beautiful and inspirational.
My mom went all out for ALL holidays - including the more minor ones like St. Patrick's Day. It was always great fun but very over the top. I can't imagine having that kind of time or expendable income.
My grandfather passed away recently and he left me one of his mother's plates that I've always admired. It's on a shelf in my kitchen now and I think of him and the good person he was every time I see it.
Cruise ship. All the way. When we lived in Europe we spent a couple of days in Venice but we were poor starving students so we stayed at hostels and ate nothing but cheese and crackers. One day I saw a huge cruise ship dock and all these lovely, clean, well-fed people flounce out of their air-conditioned rooms and down the gangplank. I've never been more jealous of anything in my entire life.
Nope. Yup.
Ewww. I don't want to think about it.
Hmmm, right about now I think I could soapbox against the bailout pretty well... ugh.
Hate costumes. That's why I would probably skip the party. Come to think of it, I'm not fond of parties, either. ;-}
How 'bout I try my hand at photography?!?
Yikes - I can't even remember. It must have been one of the boys' movies. So, maybe Nim's Island.
Well, since I've never gotten around TO decorating my bedroom, that would probably be the room...
I don't think so. But my mom surely made everything pretty for Christmas.
Me. I'm not even kidding.
Powerboat with me skiing behing it :-D.
Happy Friday, Kat!
Ooops. I was wrong. The oldest thing in my house is my husband's grandma's 1893 4-book dictionary.
I don't like to camp. I do it for the love of my family. A lot.
I don't care. I'm gonna be done with it!
Oh boy, there are so many- but I guess it would boil down to injustice against those who cannot defend themselves.
I want to be the Drew Barrymore butterfly from Ever After.
Interior designer.
I watched 13 going on 30 through my eyelids last night. The night before that it was Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns- with my eyes open.
The Family/TV/Playroom
I don't think so.
Well, after the house itself, I would have to say my husband. Actually it is some Romanian water jugs.
White water raft.
Okay,
So a few of thoughts require more thought than I can afford right now. We have a field trip today to Kennesaw and I need to leave in an hour. Wow, these are some good questions, Kat!
I love camping - as long as I have access to a flushing toilet.
Buried.
Right now? Welfare Reform.
mmm... medievil wench
An Architect
In the theater? MamaMia. At home? Sex in the City
Kitchen. It really doesn't have any decor right now.
We did have some Easter decorations... or rather my grandma did. And I always got to help her get them out, and I LOVED doing that with her.
I have a letter from a son to his mother explaining to her why he felt he needed to join the military to fight in... the Civil War. I'm not sure why we have it, it was in some paperwork my grandmother had... we've never figured out the connection to our family.
Powerboat - a cabin cruiser on a lake for a week.
Do you like to camp? Or is the Holiday Inn roughing it enough?- I <3 camping!
Do you want to be buried or cremated?- buried... just incase I'm really alive
What is your soap box issue? (Now, don't get on your soap box. I just want to know what issue will send you up there)- HUH?!?
You are going to a costume party. What will you wear?- I'll be Eddyward!
Tomorrow you MUST change jobs. No more stay at home mom. No more teacher. No more nurse. No more fill in the blank. What new career will you start?- Author!
What was the last movie you saw?- I can't remember...
What one room in your house would you like to re-decorate?- Mom's. Too dull
When you were growing up, did your family decorate for holidays other than Christmas?- ehem? I'm only 10!
What is the oldest thing in your house?- Nina
Pick one: cruise ship, powerboat, sailboat, rowboat, kayak, or inner tube?- Cruise
Darn you for making me have to think this early in the morning...
Okay, here goes:
I like to camp, but only with potty-trained kids. And a real toilet. And toilet paper. Okay, never mind, where's the hotel?
Please cremate me and spread my ashes in my garden.
My SBI (not to be confused with IBS): people who want antibiotics for a cold. And people who "save" their antibiotics instead of finishing them like the freakin' pharmacist told them to. If you're scared of MRSA (look it up), then you would be on the soapbox about this, too...
I would dress up as a sexy nurse. I always have to wear scrubs to work :(
Professional scrapbooker, definitely. Watch out, Becky Higgins!
Space Chimps (not so good)
Our Master bathroom needs help, yes it does.
My mom loved fall and Halloween as much as me. She always decorated for this time of year.
Oldest, hmm. I have a Life magazine from 1945. And some coins from the 1800's.
No doubt, a cruise. Preferably to Mexico or somewhere tropical.
Great questions!
ROFL I love Sugar's answers. Especially the most boring room in the house (yours) and the oldest thing in the house (Nina). lol
Wait, I'm assuming Nina's your mom...but maybe she isn't? Who is Nina?
I think I like camping...for a short period of time. But honestly I haven't done it in a while.
I don't plan on dying. Just kidding.
Self-righteous people drive me nuts.
My easy costume is as a jailbird, but I'd love to be a Greek goddess or a woodland fairy. Or a queen.
I would love to be a doctor or a writer.
Last movie I watched was Baby Mama last night in bed or in the theater, IGOR, with the kids.
I'd really like to redecorate my room.
My parents decorated some, but not overboard...unlike my inlaws who are crazy holiday people.
I think my china hutch is an antique, around 100 years or so. I have a necklace with an ancient Roman coin from like 300BC so I guess that wins.
I'd pick a powerboat or a cruise ship, I think.
1. I love to camp...provided I have all the amentities of home.
2. Live forever? Oh that wasn't a choice...
3. I have many but I'll pick one...saying you will do something and then not doing it. Just be honest if you are unable to do it.
4. Princess or vampire...opposite ends of the spectrum
5. I would be a pastry chef.
6. In the theaters? I think it was Wild Hogs...in March!
7. Our bedroom - its the last area with wallpaper from the previous owners
8. Not really.
9. Stevie :-} Really it would his grandfathers desk.
10. CRUISE SHIP
Camping is fun without the kids I think. Mom has to work too much if they are around.
I'm going to live forever, cuz I am going to be a Cullen, so, no need for either one.
Eating to heal. Teaching kids the value of nutrition. Eating whole foods whenever possible so as not to pollute our bodies. (beer is natural, by the way!)
Sadly, not this year. We had a standing party every year that was FUN but now we are an hour and a half away. boo hoo
I'd love to work in a trendy girlie boutique.
Wall*E. Save your money.
Um, all of 'em. I'm in a temporary set up waiting for my dream home to be built.
Yep. Halloween is still my fave to decorate for.
I have a child's rocker and toy bench that were mine when I was a child. Don't know if they are the oldest, but without a doubt my faves.
Oh man. Inner tube down the Guadalupe River with a cooler full of COOOOLD beer, floating with friends.
Camping is ok, but I don't like strenuous hikes. Short, scenic hikes with comfortable campgrounds are more my speed.
Right now, I say I would want to be buried. I don't like the idea of being burned.
Soapbox issue: kids in beauty pageants.
I am so uncreative with costumes. maybe I would dress disco b/c I have some fun sparkle-y jeans and powder blue eye shadow.
Job change: special events coordinator
Movie I saw: The Other Bolelyn Girl. I read the book and loved it and was very pleased with the movie.
Would LOVE to redecorate my bedroom.
Growing up, my family only decorated for Christmas. I decorate for other holidays, but try to improve upon it every year.
Oldest thing in house: great grandmother's silver
Pick one: no hesitation necessary... CRUISE SHIP!!!
Yippee...you know I love this!
I slept on a sheep farm in Ireland for one week while working a Christian youth camp...no toilet, no plumbing...it was AWESOME! Clearly I love the Lord. Other than this experience, I Do. Not. Like. Camping.
They can throw me in a pine box when this body dies. I'll be long gone, hanging with Jesus.
My soapbox? Will someone please tell me why there aren't 4 restrooms for Women for every 1 for the men? It's an epidemic! Every stadium, mall, concert hall, restaurant, museum, etc. needs quadruple the number of ladies rooms. I'm off the box now.
Vampira. Oh, wait...that's just for Scott. Let's see...Scarlett O'Hara. Magenta from Rocky Horror. A Hobo. (You know, like Rob's look. HA!)
Soundtrack producer for films. Or the next Stephenie Meyer.
The Dark Knight, at a movie/dinner theater in Austin. Good times.
None--we've only lived here 3 years so I'm satisified with everything.
Yes--we decorated for fall, Halloween, a bit for Valentine's and then Easter.
My great grandmother's cast iron dutch oven...it's 130+ years old. For real. I use it all the time.
Inner tube...provided it's being pulled by a boat which contains plenty of sunscreen, good music, and lots of Land Shark.
I'll take Holiday Inn, I need electricity and running water, oh and a toilet too :D
Buried, I believe
I have too many soap box issues to even begin here, I'd take up too much space :)
I don't like costume parties, I wouldn't even go...I know, I know, I am a Halloween scrooge.
I have JUST started a new job, the only thing I'd change is to make more money and have more power...like a CEO or something.
Last movie I saw was "Nights in Rodanthe"....
I need to re-decorate ALLL of my house...heehee
No, we didn't decorate for anything but Christmas.
The oldest thing in my house is probably pictures from when I was a baby
cruise ship...I have had a bad experience with inner tubes...me and a frightful child do not mix with tubing :D
I love to, but haven't gone in years.
I'd prefer cremation, but we have a family cemetary so all that will have to be paid for is the service and the burial.
Racism.
Nothing (not naked). I hate dressing up.
Teacher (since I work in a hospital).
Big Fish on DVD. Indy 4 in the theater.
None, we just moved in a year ago, so it's still new decor.
Nope, just Christmas. I'm chaning that though for me and my daughter.
The house itself!
Pick one: Powerboat.
Okay, I'm supposed to be finishing a paper that is due at 5:00 today. So naturally I thought I would do a little blogging. Ack!
1. I don't mind camping
2. Cremated and sprinkled in Paris
3. I will talk about the need for same-sex marriage anyday.
4. I am already dressed up as a scary Mom - just ask the kids.
5. My job would change from being a full-time student to being a lawyer...that is, if I my LSAT score is decent enough.
6. Bucket List
7. I would love to re-decorate my bedroom.
8. We sometimes decorated for Halloween.
9. I have a history book from the late 1800's.
10. Cruise ships are fun, but inner tubes are a blast
1. Love to camp, but no longer than a week. I REALLY love my shower when I get home.
2. I guess buried but it's not a huge deal to me.
3. I have a lot of opinions, but nothing that I'm overly passionate about.
4. A witch costume. The same one I've worn for the last 8 Halloweens. I'm to cheap to buy anything else.
5. Doctor
6. Penelope(Pretty cute, I bet your girls would love it if you haven't already seen it.)
7. Kitchen, I think the original builders of this house ran out of money when they got to the kitchen.
8. My mom put out a few knick knacks for every holiday.
9. A blanket my great grandmother made.
10. Today,a cruise would be might nice.
Camp.
Cremated.
Healthcare.
One year, I was Madonna:-)
Baker.
Harry Potter????
Kitchen.
We put those decorations on the windows for every holiday:-)
My mom.
Cruise ship:-)
1. We love to camp! As hubby and I get older, we're starting to dream of doing it in a travel trailer. Which really isn't camping. But it's a lot more comfy!
2. Hubby and I have decided that the first one to go will get cremated. The second one to go can have either (we're leaving the choice up to Cody - since he'll be the one visiting/spreading/keeping us) and the first one's ashes will be put in with the second's. Yes, we've given this a lot of thought ;)
3. There are so many, I wouldn't even know where to start. Wait! Here's one: People's ignorant belief that Teacher's Unions really do care about the quality of education that a child recieves (that's like saying the Teamster's really do care if your UPS packages arrive on time).
4. I actually am going to a costume party in a couple of weeks. Hubby and I are dressing up like 2 Firefly characters.
5. Freelance writer.
6. I watched RV yesterday with my kid.
7. The living room. I'd love to add a bunch of built-ins.
8. We'd put out gourds and such for fall decorating, but Christmas was really all we did anything for.
9. I have a bunch of stuff dating between 1900 - 1920, so it'd be hard to name just one thing.
10. I know it's not on your list, but "canoe".
What a morning. And now I have a minute to answer my own questions before I am off again.
I don't camp. At all. And the Holiday in IS roughing it.
cremated. Not sure where I want my ashes scattered. We scattered my Dad's ashes in the ocean. An uncle's on the the woods where he liked to hunt. My grandfather is cremeated - but his ashes are buried at Arlington. And my mom wants her ashes spread in our backyard.
Evolution.
I don't like costume parties. Mostly because I am so uncreative. And I can never come up with anything amusing. Or topical. Or interesting. But I think a wench would be a fun costume. Maybe...
College professor.
Dark Knight. Or was it Mama Mia? One of those.
Unlike my daughter's assertation that my room is boring - it's my favorite room! I'd love to redo my family room. Get rid of the carpet. And do something interesting with the walls.
Not at all. Just Christmas. And that was not much.
We have lots of old things in our house. And my daughter is wrong, my mother is not the oldest thing. Our oldest thing is a pair of Conquistador stirrups from the 1500s.
Hands down - cruise ship. I am thinking that we need to have that blog stalkers convention on a ship. Who wants to go?
Here are my thoughts...

I liked camping in high school, what with the lack of supervision and the alcohol and the occasional boy visit. Now? No. Just no. Never ever ever would I go camping. I like a bed and air or heat, TV, pillows, carpet, a toilet, a shower, a fridge. No.
Buried, I suppose.
Asking me what's "wrong" with my kid. Or speaking out of one's ass.
I don't really do costumes.
Can I go from teacher to SAHM? Please? I beg of you. Or I could be a secretary or work at Target or Kohl's. Or maybe even preschool or work with college kids. But please let me quit teaching 4th grade before I go in&%*@ingsane.

Soap box: I just became a grandma - I was irritated with the amount of people who showed up at the hospital to see the newborn and they were coughing due to colds - they shook my hand and commented afterwards how their spouse and child were home with horrible flus; they held the baby and talked about how they just finished visiting ill people in the hospital.......
