Trim the Fat Thursday

I have been reading. All about Shannon and Brandy becoming paralyzed by Jillian Michaels. About Carrie and her losses with Weight Watchers (she has two really low points - and yummy - recipes posted - one for Spanokopita and another for pizza dough). Rachael reached a huge milestone in losing 20+ pounds. Angie has been trimming the fat. Aubrey is on the bandwagon. And I am too. I just haven't told anyone about it. Until now.

I have so much to lose it's overwhelming. But I took that first step about 6 weeks ago and joined Weight Watchers online. I just this week got to the five pound benchmark. I am quite convinced it goes beyond a slow metabolism. I think that mine has deserted me entirely. So, to help with my motivation. And accountability. I thought I'd bring you into that inner circle. And tell you how it's going. What I need to be doing. What I am doing well. And maybe. Just maybe. Inspire us both.

My plan is to tell you about something that is helping or hindering me each week. Followed by some sort of goal. So...this week. I thought we would talk about food. I am all about what I can eat a lot of. For as little points as possible. But. I am not a veggie person. I cannot just grab a handful of mini carrots and enjoy. I wish my tastebuds leaned in that direction.

Here are some things that are yummy. Low in points. And make this journey much easier.

1. Weight Watchers Chocolate chip cookie dough sundae. My kids cannot believe I won't share these with them. But they are all mine. My issue is to try and not eat both sundaes in the same day.

2. Edy's Whole fruit bars

Now these I am willing to share. And they are oh so yummy. And oh so low in points.

3. Pirate Booty and Smart PuffsAnother healthy snack that I am willing to share. I love it when the kids want these instead of chips. They are good. And you get A LOT for little points.

4. El Monterey soft tacos. This is my favorite lunch. These all natural soft tacos are only 2 points each. They are flavorful. And have a great kick. I also like to have them with my bean dip (which is only 1 point a serving!). It helps my wimpy taste buds deal with that kick from the spice.

5. Wholly Guacamole 100 calorie snack packs.Another food that my girlies refuse to try. I think I learned my lesson and will not be encouraging their taste buds on to one of my favorites. These are great to have with those soft tacos. Or just with some baked tostitos. And besides being uber delish...they are already portioned out. I don't have to measure. I just enjoy! And on that measuring note...

Goal for the week:

I have been pretty good about writing down what I eat in my WW log online. Where I am failing. I think. Is that I don't measure. I eyeball it. But my stomach may be influencing my fingers as I type the information. So. This week I am actually going to measure what I am eating. And type out the actual information. And see if that can equal a better number on my scale for next week.

Be sure to go over to Angie's spot to see how everyone else is doing this week. Get on the bandwagon yourself...and link up so that we can support each other.

So...what about you? Have you discovered a food that is making your weight loss journey easier?

That would be a NO. Right now I'm just concentrating on drinking water, taking my pills & getting in some exercise. Once I've got that down, then I will start tracking the food.

So tell me, were the soft tacos in the regular freezer section? Cause I really, really want to try them now.

Oh and for the bean dip are you using low fat dressing or cheese?

Wholly guacamole rocks!

Glad you learned your lesson in not encouraging your girls to like this. I am so happy when I have the whole bowl of guac to myself.

Good luck with your goals!

Hey, 5 lbs is nothing to sneeze at! I know it seems like a drop in the bucket, but you WILL get there. The weight didn't come on overnight and it won't disappear overnight either. (no matter how much I weep and pray for it to) Thanks for the heads up on desserts and snack foods! Those are huge weaknesses of mine. I've heard about Pirate's Booty for years and have never located it. Apparently I'm really missing out. And those enchiladas look heavenly! I'll have to find some of those too. You don't by chance get those both at Publix? (crossing my fingers)

Lotsa foods out there hun! I don't do points though. I've been put on the <3 grams of fat (which is impossible for me so I keep it <9 grams) and >5 grams of fiber. This is do-able. You like tacos? I make mine at home... using the Mission Low Carb torts (11 grams of fiber EACH)...and use the fat free beans and fat free cheese. Yummy. Homemade smoothies! Use fat free yogurt...skim milk...1 banana and 1 cup of frozen fruit. If it needs sweetening, add 2 pkts of Splenda with fiber. 1 smoothie will give you 7-9 grams of fiber. Bluebunny personals icecreams. Only 2 servings in the container and about 3 grams of fat per serving (so if you over indulge and eat both, it's still not too bad!). Hidden Valley has these spray dressings that are ok too....I could go on and on.

Okay, how many points are the Dryers fruit bars? The coconut ones have been my kick lately. LOOOOVE them! I have SO got to get on this band wagon. My 15 year reunion is Sat. I so badly wanted to lose a good 15 pounds (heck I'd have even taken 10), but instead I gained 4. Booo....

I do have a protein drink that I love. I have to order it online, but it tastes good and chocolately and is high protein, low(ish) carbs, high fiber.

Great job on your loss so far! I am doing weight Weight Watchers online as well and love it. I have done Weight Watchers meetings previously with great results but there arent any close to me now. So far I am down 7lbs in 4 weeks and have soooooo much more to lose!

LOVE the Edy's fruit bars... but I've not tried any of the other foods.

Another frozen treat I've found is... well, I don't know the name of them. I threw the box away and can't remember their name! But they are fat free and dairy free... sort of like a icee, or shaved ice thingy. Anyhoo, they're pretty good.

So far today, I've drunk 16 oz of water... and have only had 2 Cokes! FOUR 12 oz bottles of Coke is my usual per day!

My new thing is fun pops. The flavored ice Popsicle things. They're only 50 calories and no fat, so they are miles better than even the slim-a-bear ice cream treats and they satisfy my yen for an after dinner sweet.

And 5 pounds is AWESOME! Seriously! Celebrate that accomplishment, it's no mean feat.

Good for you for making the choice to be healthy. Just doing that is a big step for a lot of people. I love those whole fruit bars, they are so yummy!

I am right there with you, my friend. Except I haven't lost 5 pounds. So I like you a little less right now. ;)
I am writing all of these foods down. I need things to snack on and healthy foods to eat. I lost a bunch of weight several years ago with WW but didn't have the motivation to keep it off. I am sick of myself right now. I started working out again. And am TRYING to do better.

I'm finding poverty does wonders for the diet :)

We're LOVING the pirate booty around here... and all the other snacks in that same line

WAY TO GO GIRL!!!!!! I am jealous...I need something to kick me in the butt to get me back on the work out wagon again :( WHYYYY is it sooo hard to stay on it???!!!!!???? UGGGH!!!!! Oh yea....we love our booty (Pirate that is!) around here too!! Have you tried the caramel one??? Probably worth more points..but it is super good! And I agree with your last post....I could eat that whole bowl of cherries myself too (and have--the whole package that is!) Good luck girl! I'm rootin' for ya all the way!!!!!

I hear so much about this Pirate Booty. I must get some.

Right after I convince my parents to stop at Papasitos on their way up here on Wednesday. I sincerely want some steak quesadillas. And chips and salsa.

Sigh...

You keep on keeping on...and keep us posted. Maybe you'll inspire me to shed the lbs. Heck...I need the inspiration.

Hummus! Weight Watchers has a 2point recipe and the one I make myself is also 2 points. I makes it much easier for me to eat my veggies.
Also, as silly as it sounds, frozen grapes. I just rinse them and throw them in snack bags. That way they are perfectly portioned snacks when I want something sweet.
First time commenting here, but I have been a follower (ok lurker) for a while.
I have a weight loss goal of 13 pounds and a blogger goal to comment on the blogs I read. I am a constant work in process. :)

Kat, I know exactly how overwhelming it can be. When I started out on WW, I needed to lose over 100 lbs. Now, I am down below that, but not by a lot - 93 pounds to lose for my goal weight. It's hard to think of that way. Always set smaller goals, and my trick is to think of sticks of butter. Five pounds? That's TWENTY STICKS OF BUTTER that you're not carrying around with you anymore!

I absolutely LOVE the weight watchers ice creams - they are perfect because asking me to cut out sweets? Would be ridiculous! I am glad you decided to share here because the support I've gotten online has made a HUGE difference to me, and hopefully it will for you too!

YOU GO GIRL!

My mouth was watering! What a great group of snack alternatives! I'm putting a few of these on my list!

I went for the final fitting of my maid of honor dress today. Ummm...I think I fell off the wagon. Or at least that is what the zipper was telling me. LOL

I really do need help. I need motivation and inspiration. I'm just so darn tired at the end of the day. Keep posting... hopefully it will sink in.

Yay, go you! I'm quite impressed. And what about air popped popcorn? That's one of my favorite treats and so easy to make. Those sundaes look good -- though I sorta wonder what they put in them to make them that low in points (I'm anti-fake food... but that's just me). Good luck and congrats on those 5 pounds!

I have this serious problem. I HEART WW.. I DO! It REALLY does work. The best part is it's NOT like a "diet". BUT if I stop going to meetings (which the economy has forced me to) I don't fair so well and it comes back! Just back from vacation where I ate enough to fill a small SHIPPING CONTAINER. And I'm easing back into it. Like Brandy said WATER.. that seems to help LOTS! And I haven't forgotten the MD wub I'll be sending your way. All 3 points or less! And some spices that you'll dig and that might just help. HUGS

I, too, am back on the Weight Watcher's wagon, and down 22 pounds since January. =)

The best thing I've discovered this time around, is that I fare better if I don't worry so much about fat or calories or what have you, but just concentrate on filling my life with "nutrient dense" foods. Also, I think it's helped a lot that I've started avoiding high fructose corn syrup like the plague.

Congrats so far- keep up the good work!

KAT!!! I am SO excited for you!! Five pounds IS a big deal! It took me nearly a month to get my 5 lb star and it felt like I won the lottery!

I lose very slowly--average of 1.1 lbs a week--but it's pretty consistent. I just have to keep being patient and stick to the plan. When I have a bad day, I start over the very next day and if I have a gain one week or hit a plateau, I just try even harder the next week.

I am at 38 pounds lost! I even lost FIVE pounds on vacation! Can you believe that? I'm just so excited to feel like I've finally found a way to live and lose at the same time!

I know you can do it Kat! I'm so excited for you!

My favorite snacks are air-popped popcorn or the 100 calorie popcorn bags, fat-free pringles (1 serving is 1 point), Quaker 25% less sugar granola bars (1 point), any lowfat yogurt that is 1 point, and because I'm a fruity candy sort of gal, the snack size packets of skittles!

p.s. You MUST tell me where you find the tacos!! They sound deeeeelicous! And thanks for the link love!
