Wordless Wednesday: Fall? Really? Where?

Do you know what happened on Monday? It was the autumnal equinox. But here. I think mother nature is confused. It's still summer. We are all in shorts. Madalyn even wore a tank top to school this week. Even my flowers are confused. My azaelas are blooming. I have new growth on my roses. And my crepe myrtles. They bloomed a month ago. The flowers died. And then last week. They decided to bloom again.

So...take a look at these "fall" pictures. And tell me what you notice.

Do you notice that there are no jackets to be seen? How about that my kids are barefoot? And even though these pictures were taken during the "official" fall season - most of you had moved on from Fall. Because these were taken on December 21st of last year. Yes, FOUR days before Christmas.

I know I shouldn't complain. We don't have four months of snow. Or four days. Or even four hours of snow. But, I just want it to FEEL like the correct season. I want it to FEEL like Fall!

So, what about you? What's your favorite season? Is your weather "appropriate" to your seasons where you live? Is it REALLY Fall in your neck of the woods?

Fall is my favorite. And no, it is not fall here, either. Highs are in the mid-80s. Someone needs to tell Mother Nature to get on the ball and bring on the cooler temps!

Fall??? I am still waiting for summer!!!! Really, two days of "hot" is not summer. I wore a sweater ALL "summer" this year. I don't want Fall to come but by the looks of things, I can't really stop it. :-(
Fall use to be my favorite season. I loved the changing colors and the crisp air. I loved falling asleep under cool covers. Now I just want a little bit of summer for just a little bit longer!

Well, fall is definitely my favorite time of year although fall in GA is definitely not the same as fall in Indiana. I definitely miss the beautiful fall leaves although the last few years, I have noticed more pretty fall leaves than I had in the first few years of living down here. But I do not miss the cold winter weather that I grew up with. Always wishing for a white Christmas, the snow never started until January although we had the temps below zero for Christmas. yuck. No, I don't miss that at all. I do wish Christmas were a little more like the Christmas cards depict though. But I'll survive. :)

By the way, I LOVE the theme song today. One of my favorites....

Autumn is arriving in SC. No need for jackets and shorts are worn. But the nights are cooling down a bit.
My favorite season is summer.

Those pictures ROCK! I love it! And no, it doesn't really feel like fall here. We get into the high 80's during the day, but mornings in the 50's sure feel nice...

We do get cold here...just not for another month or so...

Those are great! I was wondering when they were taken. :) Mine isn't exactly autumnal today either. :)

Here in Ohio, fall usually doesn't "arrive" until the end of September, but lately it has been mid-October. The last few Halloweens have been coatless and warm, in the 60's to 70's. Which is kinda nice, since you don't have to cover up costumes with a jacket. But I sure am ready for changing trees and apple cider and long hikes with sweaters and jeans. I'm going on a field trip with my preschooler to an apple orchard today, which would be an awesome fall outing, if the forecast wasn't 82 degrees!

Fall is definitely my favorite season!

And here's a question for ya:

When did you start blogging, and why? Do you "sound" the same in your writing now as you did when you first began? Or has your blogger voice "matured" as time has passed?

As a native California gal who has never lived anywhere else … I don’t understand ‘seasons’ very well … and (although I sometimes think ‘seasonal variations’ could be interesting) … I’m happy to be ‘bare-footed’ pretty much year round … just because.

Love all of those fall leaves. Here in SE Texas, we have one season: hot and humid summer. We may be lucky in the, what do you call it, winter? Sometimes we can get a blast of cool/cold air for, uh, dunno, maybe 3 days.

First, those pictures are great! I love it :)
And I totally know what you mean about the seasons. I grew up in West Texas and currently live in Louisiana. It's all about the summer heat down here...

Christmas of '85 it was 85 degrees...in Warner Robins, that is. So I'm thinking the upper parts of GA were at least in the 70's/80's. We set all kinds of records, but it made me sad. I love my Georgia better than life itself but the lack of 4 true seasons has never impressed me like it does for some people.

Libbey has had to wear a sweater to school every morning this week--54 when we left the house. It will be low 70's by the time she gets home, so we are working our way towards fall. And a few of the trees are just barely starting to show evidence of color change. That's another thing about living in the mountains--the trees are gorgeous by late October. GA has far too many pine trees...too green.

Remind me of this when it's March and your crepe myrtles and azaleas and dogwoods are blooming and I'm watching the snow and sleet fall. By March I'm so over the cold weather. So. Over.

I am a Southern Girl used to wearing shorts on Christmas morn, but the Navy has moved us all over and right now it is beautiful fall weather in Virginia Beach. I love Fall!

I love Fall... and I have no idea what to expect here in Western NC... I know in the mornings the girls have worn jackets, and by afternoon it's just lovely... I guess I'll see what happens...

Of course, the fun thing is that NEXT fall I'll be getting used to yet another climate, but I'll have REALLY GOOD FRIENDS near by who can adequately prepare me!!!

hehe. I immediately guessed those were last year's pictures. Wow - you guys have a lotta leaf clean-up each year, eh?

Seasons. Season?!? I live in SoCal. There are no seasons here. Just shades of the same stuff. Well, ok, we do get June Gloom (marine layer fog all day til about 5p) that starts in May and ends sometimes in July. But other than that, every day here is a potential beach day.

What great action shots - makes me want to go jump in a pile of leaves myself :)

I live right outside of New Orleans. We have "Summer" and "Summer Lite" for seasons. I love fall, when I get the chance to travel to another state and see those brillant colors and the crisp feeling that lingers in the air.

In my neck of the woods, we're happy to get 85 for the high, but oh, how I long for the 60's!

I know that you mean, it is really confusing here too. Nice and fally, cool in the morning and then hot in the afternoons. I am changing the kids clothes more times than I can count and it is creating way to much laundry.

Fall is by far my favorite and it's sort of starting to show up here. I've lived in the deep south all my life and where I live now is the furthest north I've ever lived (North MS). Fall shows up here sooner than anywhere else I've lived so I consider it fall-esque right now.

I heart fall. It's starting to be very cool in the mornings and night around here but still nice during daylight - 70's or so.

Tomorrow it's supposed to be rainy and low 60's so no flip flops for me.

~About two years ago we went motorcycle riding on January 1st because it was in the high 60's and now it's tradition~

Almost forgot...great song choice!

We are lucky to get all four seasons here in Idaho, however Spring, Summer, and Fall tend to be very short. Winter is long here. I love Fall. The trees here are just starting to turn and some have been losing a few leaves. Great pictures! THAT is a pile of leaves!!

As a gardener, spring and summer are my favorites. I love to be outdoors and when I am not digging, we are swimming in our pool. Love it:-)

And no, it isn't fall yet here. 80 degrees at the end of September in Wisconsin...yeah...there is no such thing as global warming:-)

I think I lke Fall the best, I like the colors and the huge moon. But living where I live, we don't have many seasons either.

OH I LOVE LOVE LOVE those pics of the girls!! No doubt about it...I love Fall :) And actually, the past two weeks we've been hovering around 85. But there were a couple of days (when I couldn't hold off anymore and brought out my Fall decor!) that is was THE perfect Fall weather! Seasons here in OK...we have a very short Fall generally and then it's Winter...very windy and cold...usually once or twice we get a great snow! Spring is kinda rainy and windy and then Summer is just HOT and HUMID (maybe not as humid as Georgia though!) and then we LOVE our wind! At least your kids get to play out in your great backyard for most of the year :)

Summer used to be my favorite season, but I think autumn is now. Just because it's so moderate.

Fall is my favorite season mostly because the weather is the best and it includes all of my favorite holidays. The weather here is nice and cool/breezy in the mornings, but the afternoons are still hot and yucky. The "real" Fall weather doesn't arrive here until late October or sometimes even late November. I can remember driving around in my convertible in high school with the top down at Thanksgiving.

What fun fall photos! My son can't wait until the leaves start falling here so he can play in them.

I'm a little confused with my seasons down here. It should be fall, but winter just ended. We should now be in spring time. It's so weird. But I usually love the winter time back in the states. As I am from mostly warm weather climates, winter signifies the time of year that I can break out my sweater to keep me warm!

I live in MD where we used to get 4 seasons but now Spring seems to have disappeared...so we only get 3.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE fall!! It is by far my favorite!! Here in MD the seasons are timed perfectly....it is starting to be in the 70's during the day and 50's/60's at night The leaves will be changing soon in the next couple of weeks....I love everything about it!!

Have fun meeting HTLizzy!!

I just saw you linked on two different site--most recently on Momma Blogs A Lot--so I thought I had to drop by and see what all of the GOOD fuss is about. And yep! I can see. Fall leaves. Who doesn't wish they found themselves in one of those pics right now? We, too, are experiencing warm weather still. My son did wear a long-sleeved shirt today, but the leaves here are still green and on the trees. Can't wait for that to change. At least I saw some color on the mountains. Time for a Sunday drive.

Glad I linked over. What a fun blog! Happy fall--in all of its varieties :).

Nice photos!!

Right now, here in Reno, it's 5:18 in the evening and 86 deg F. Fall, what Fall ??

I love Fall, but most of the trees are not showing any signs of 'turning'. I've been really waiting for the fall colours to start, so I can get out and take some photos.

One blessing is that it's no longer in the high 90's and it's a little cooler at night.

We do get snow here, but there has not been much of it in recent years.

It's going to be pretty confusing when I return home to NZ. The seasons are reversed down there. Christmas is in summer, but we still send each other Xmas cards with snowy scenes on them and the poor Father Christmas's in the Malls where those velvet suits!

Britt said...

How crazy is that? I can't imagine .. though, the trees are still pretty green here, and the corn is finally starting to get more golden than green. It doesn't feel like fall yet.

But no snow on Christmas? Might be a nice change .. we had at least a foot last year.

I love the fall .. it rocks my socks!

Balancing the Media said...

I love that this pic was at Christmas time...and I LOVE the fall, but I would be sad if we didn't have summer to swim, and spring to get excited about the swimming....oh, and at least one good snow in NC, so...hmm...didn't really answer any of the questions.
And no...it's not fall yet. Today was the first day that it was a bit chilly.

Firefly Mom said...

Fall is my favorite and YES, IT'S HERE!! It's been in the 60's - low 70's, rain, leaves starting to turn. We even had to relight the pilot on the gas heater. Of course, it was in the 90's 3 weeks ago!

Heather said...

Oh yeah. And I love it for the most part, but I know winter's just around the corner and I'm dreading it!!

The Beauty Bargainista said...

Its not fall here either. We are in the 80's and 90's here in TX and no snow to be seen..pretty much ever! lol But I do wish it would get cooler. Last year it got pretty cold, so I am hoping we will get to experience that again! :)

Debbie said...

Well it has been hot recently, but today it is chilly...sent the kids to school in jackets...and not one leaf has turned yet.

And our seasons are like venn diagrams...overlapping everywhere...It was 40 on Easter this year....and 65 on Christmas Day. Wacky!

Oh and I LOVE FALL the best. The colors, the excitement of all the holidays, the crisp air and best of all the kids going back to school!

Great pictures of your kids enjoying themselves. My favorite season is spring. I love the lighter evenings and all the spring flowers. In England at the moment the weather is perfect (not raining and not too cold).

Do you have a yard service that cleans up all those leaves or do you just leave them be? That's a LOT of leaves. Impressive.
