An Ode to You-Tube

Dear You-Tube,

I just wanted to take a moment of your time to tell you how much I love thee. Let me count the ways...

Because of you. I no longer have to wade through an entire episode of Saturday Night Live. I know that all the good parts will show up at your place.

Because of you. I now know how to de-seed a pomegranate. How to peel an egg. Without actually peeling it. And I could watch videos on how to knit. Or skateboard. Or steal wi-fi.

Because of you. I have video proof of evolution at work. And I can see the prime candidates for the Darwin awards. Like the kids who decided to stick his face into a fire ant nest. On purpose. Or the other kids who really made a cool video. Creating a slide from the roof of thier house into a toddlers wading pool.

Because of you. I am enabled. I can continue my procrastination of all the things that I should be doing. Because when I come to your place to look at something. I always spot something else to look at. And then something else. And the next thing I know eight hours a few hours have gone by. But. You also give me the excuse. Because I can just send my family to your place. And they can become distracted. And not notice all that I have neglected.

But mostly. Because of you. I am able to see commercials. With the advent of the DVR, I never watch commercials anymore. And now. I can find the new classics. The hysterical. The ones that cannot be categorized. And I'd like to share my absolute favorites with you:

A Coke Light commercial. That ends with a great blessing.

An ad for Carlton beer. That uses music from the opera "Carmen Burina" for epic effect.

Another one for Carlton beer. "Flashbeer"

And finally one for the "March of the Penguins" movie. In France. You might need to get your depends on.

You-tube. You complete me.

Love,

Kat

So...what about you? Do you get sucked in at you-tube? Have you ever posted videos? What gems have you found there?

What is it with the French and their commercials?!!?!?!

These are hilarious. And yes, YouTube sucks me in... all the time.

And too funny... my post for today is about a commercial!!! Shane would call it a "gem"... me? Not so much.

My last blog post has a You Tube video ... first time I've ever posted one. I was nostalgic for old MTV videos. Don't ask me how many hours I spent watching every music video from the mid-80's ... let me just say this ... everybody Wang Chung Tonight!

Kelsey said...

wow the last one is pretty funny.
I've only been on Youtube a few times because I only recently got a faster connection so now I can actually watch them!

I loved the Justin Timberlake SNL Beyonce video. That and the "Charlie Bit me" video. I think those are about the only ones I've seen!

Great to see some ads from down under!
Love the March of the Emperor!!

The beer ads I mean - when I said 'down under'.

I'll admit, I've never posted a video. I'd have to make one of my driving my kid to a billion different homeschool activities, because I swear that's all I ever do!

I love YouTube. Currently I'm showing both son and hubby classic SNL clips (as hubby was raised in a cave and missed out on the glory days).

Too funny! I love the last one when he said they had sex for hours. The look on their faces...

I watch gross stuff on you tube, like spider bites. Have you seen those? If not, go now. It's so gross and yet fascinating.

Oh I am SO glad I have seen these before because i would be DYING if I'd had to wait until tonight to watch them!!!

You know I love these things.

I think I've posted a video... i'm not sure though...

I like Youtube because it lets me watch some of my favorite shows all over again..

There have been some real psychos on there.

But I've never posted my own.

I'v tried to upload to youtube, but it didn't work...boo!

I am a youtube addict. My kids send me stuff all the time and now I have my 78 year old Dad addicted too. He sends me links and he is a total computer-phobe

Funny. It's very true though, I NEVER watch commercials anymore. I LOVE DVR's. And yes, You Tube sucks viewers in like a black hole.

Jen said...

oh yes you just gotta love you-tube. I know that I do. Thanks for sharing those. It was totally LOL! funny.

I don't use You tube a wholelot...i guess i will hav eto start though!

Nissa said...

I try to stay away from you tube browsing. I tend to go when I need to see an episode or two that I've missed of a tv show. Or to find a funny commercial that a friend told me about which my tivo loving self of course missed.

I've found lots of crazy funny stuff, but none are pooping out right now to share..

Nissa said...

Hahaha I said pooping on accident. Freudian slip, perhaps?
Oh, but I've posted videos on occasion.

Holy cow the work on that first Carlton commercial is awesome. All the work that to go into that to make it look right!

*laffz* that Emperor one is funny...the look on the girl's face as she's picturing all these little Napoleons....

Love the Coke ad, I'd be just anticipating....then oy!

okay. I must confess. when I'm totally bored or up with insomnia, I youtube Sonny and Brenda clips from General Hospital (circa 1995). in my opinion, these epic scenes and the pinnacle of daytime tv. never to be outdone. sigh.

I'm always getting stuck in the Tube .. which usually makes me sick, since I'm pretty scared of small spaces, and avoid tubes of all kinds.

I loved those commercials .. how come other countries get such cool commercials, and the majority of ours suck?

Rhea said...

European commercials totally rock. I LOVE them. These were hilarious. And that orgina ad is the best.

You crack me up. I rarely watch You-Tube. I'm glad I have you to send me the good stuff though.

Can I second this motion (pledge our love to YouTube)? I just got a Flip (Xmas present to myself) & made my first video. Well, it wasn't with my Flip, but I am so excited about it that I had to share! Tee hee! Anyway... made my first YouTube video the other day, which is more like a slide presentation, but whatevs. Then, uploaded it to YouTube and posted it on my site. Was so easy and fun and simple to share. Not only can I see any video, movie trailer, and funny clip, I also get personal benefit. YEAH!

One more thing... I thought you'd love some fun and yummy Christmas cookies: http://twitpic.com/r6xz

Enjoy!

YouTube rocked before we had On Demand. I could find short clips of Elmo that would make Monkey VERY happy. No wonder it was his first word.

Now they're great for videos like the will.i.am New Day video and Ludo's Love Me Dead.

Those commercials are hilareous!

Oh I sooo could get sucked in at you-tube too! I try to just not go there. Never posted a video. It's been awhile since I've been on it..but I can remember a bride and groom doing a little dance routine at their reception that I thought was HYSterical!

Michelle said...

Well. Funny you should ask. My most recent post was a video of the wee ones sledding from this weekend :)

Otherwise, I avoid You Tube like the plague for the reasons you mentioned. And I really could have gone without seeing that second beer video. The first one was great and totally got my expectations up ;)

ChicagoLady said...

Yes I get sucked in to YouTube. No I've never posted there. Some of the best gems are the Jeff Dunham shows he does with his puppets. I Keeel you!!!!!!!

And there's a classic series of commercials that aired here in Chicago for an insurance company. Eagle Insurance. Starring Eagle Man. Go look for them now! You'll laugh your ass off!

I love youtube. I always try to see clips-- like that college guy asking McCain about Skull and Bones getting tazered. or kids blowing up Sprite bottles. or concert clips. or comedians with dummies talking...

Teri said...

Oh that Flashbeer is hysterical.

I haven't had much time to get sucked in...yet. But just wait until school is out. Wasted time, here I come.

Here's one video I do know about, though. It's the Engineers Guide to Cats. Have you seen it? Doug thought it was very logical.

What about the march of the penguins in 5 seconds? "They are no match for my pet seal Henry."

You know, I have got to be the only person on the planet that doesn't frequent You-Tube. I got there when someone says, "Look at this". But other than that...

Lula! said...

I long to live in France...with egg-passing emperors.

Huh-larious, Kat. Truly.

Debbie said...

Sadly, I am not part of the YOU TUBE club. I rarely go on there...lame I know. Not the first time I've been called lame...won't be the last.

Rachael said...

That last one was hilarious! I totally get sucked into youtube, and love it when people post funny videos. I've actually started posting a video on my blog every sunday that I've found throughout the week.
