On this day...

My parents lived all over the world. Travelling with their families and their Air Force fathers. Their families settled in the same neighborhood. And my parents met when they were in the 9th grade. They started dating when they were seniors in high school. They went to the prom together.

They dated through college.

Went to fraternity parties together.

And my father proposed at Christmas in 1967.They were married on August 31, 1968.

Surrounded by family. And they began their new life together.Today they would be celebrating 40 years of marriage. If my father had not been taken from us too soon. So, Mom. Even though the occasion is not written on the calendar anymore. I wanted you to know that I remember.

I had no idea today marked their 40th aniversary! when we were in college the example of their marriage and closeness was so real to me every time we came home with our laundry and ate platefuls of moo-goo-guy-dead. i will carry those memories close to my heart especially today, and for the rest of my life.
i love love love seeing al these pictures-your Dad's mother's characteristic expressions, Bill as a young man, your mother as a true blonde...how much Karl looks like your Dad. what a fantastic family--i know they are so proud of you as well. God Bless!

You made me tear up. Such beautiful, fun, love-filled photos. And they made me smile, cause I've seen almost identical photos of my own mom & dad, in almost the same clothing/poses ... and even my grandma's mother-of-the-bride dress was similar to your grandma's (only pink :-).

That was great. The picture journey up through their wedding, classic. A very few of us are lucky enough to have parents that find their true love. I know it is an awesome thing to witness. What a wonderful way to remember their love.

Kat...that was lovely. I know your Mom is so glad you remember each year. They were a beautiful couple and I loved her PROM dress...simply beautiful! So classic. My mother-in-law was taken too early as well. 58 yrs old. I didn't know her long...but long enough to know what an incredible person she was and I miss her so much. So...on some level, I kinda know what you mean.

This is a wonderful tribute to your parents. You know that it reminds me of your mother's wedding album when she described her brother sobbing on their wedding day. I don't think I can ever forget that.(<:

Such a pretty veil! Did she still have it? Did you wear it on your wedding day?

That is so sweet! Hearing stories like theirs gives me hope that my hubby and I will celebrate a 40th anniversary someday.

I know it sounds lame, but given my circumstances, it's so important to me to see that there are happy marriages out there. Thanks!
